Walkin' for Wishes

2009 Walkin' for Wishes:  June 12th

The La Crosse Jaycees “Walkin’ for Wishes” was started in June 2008. Through donations raised from walkers and local businesses, the La Crosse Jaycees was able to donate money to a local patient with breast cancer. This patient was able to take a vacation to Wisconsin Dells with her family and grandchildren.  In future years, this walk will benefit multiple patients throughout the year.

The La Crosse Jaycees will host its second annual Walkin’ for Wishes event June12, 2010, at Weigent Park Shelter, 16th St S & Cass, La Crosse.  Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m., with the walk starting at 10:00 a.m.

MDA Shamrocks

This St. Patrick's Day fund-raiser is held by businesses to help people with neuromuscular diseases. All materials are provided free by MDA. It's a great way to create a festive St. Patrick's Day atmosphere. Millions of Shamrocks against Dystrophy participants will "share the green" in time for St. Patrick's Day and help the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The nation's largest charitable campaign associated with St. Patrick's Day, Shamrocks against Dystrophy has raised more than $10 million through the efforts of volunteers, participating businesses and donors. "This special campaign provides a marvelous way of supporting MDA's lifesaving research and service programs that benefit families, such as summer camps and clinics," said singer/actor Maureen McGovern, national chairperson of Shamrocks Against Dystrophy.

The La Crosse Jaycees have participated in the MDA Shamrock program for several years. Several local businesses are contacted and agree to sell the MDA Shamrocks. During this time, the Jaycees frequently visit these businesses to promote the sale of the Shamrocks. If you are interested in selling Shamrocks in 2010, please contact us.

Toys For Tots

The La Crosse Jaycees® "Toys for Tots" program has been successful in bringing toys to needy children for over 70 years. This year, we expect to provide toys to more than 2000 needy children in La Crosse County. The "Toys for Tots" program provides free toys to children, ages 0-12, whose parent or guardian registers with our organization at The Salvation Army, at State Street.

Parents/guardians list their children's age, gender, and interests such as games dolls, or trucks. New toys are then purchased by the La Crosse Jaycees® and distributed at the toy giveaway. This program is a Non-Profit Foundation with 501c3 tax-exempt status.
